Pelosi Targets The Supreme Court

When will Pelosi stop plaguing this country?

During an interview on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki,” Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker and Democrat from California, expressed her belief that Supreme Court justices should have term limits. She also hinted at the possibility of expanding the nine-justice court.

According to The Hill, Pelosi emphasized the need for term limits for justices, noting that they are appointed for life without ever having to run for office. She argued that this lack of accountability for their ethical behavior is problematic.

The context of Pelosi’s comments stems from the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade and transferred abortion regulation to the states. This ruling, along with recent concerns about the court’s ethical standards, particularly regarding financial disclosures from Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, has placed the highest court under scrutiny.

Pelosi highlighted the importance of implementing ethical rules for the justices and expressed her disappointment in Thomas and Alito’s alleged violations. She also mentioned the Supreme Court’s record-low approval rating, as indicated by recent polling from Quinnipiac University, where only 30 percent of registered voters approved of the court.

While Pelosi was not definitive about expanding the court, she acknowledged that it is a topic worthy of discussion. She mentioned that it has been more than 150 years since the court’s last expansion, which occurred during the time of President Lincoln, increasing the number of justices to nine. Pelosi clarified that the matter of court expansion is not currently a rallying cry but should be subject to discussion.
