Here’s what happened…
Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has been hospitalized for evaluation following an injury sustained while on a trip to Luxembourg with a bipartisan congressional delegation, according to a statement from her office.
Pelosi, 84, was in Luxembourg to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge when the injury occurred. While the exact nature of the injury remains undisclosed, Pelosi’s spokesperson reassured the public that she is receiving top-notch medical care from doctors and professionals.
The statement, released by Pelosi’s spokesperson Ian Krager, clarified that while traveling with the delegation, Pelosi was injured during an official event. She has been admitted to the hospital for further evaluation. Despite the setback, Pelosi is said to be continuing to work and has expressed regret over not being able to participate in the remainder of the trip, which included activities to honor the heroic American servicemen who fought in one of the most significant battles of World War II.
The congressional delegation, which was led by Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), consists of 18 House members. The group planned to participate in events over the weekend to mark the historic anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, which played a pivotal role in securing Allied victory in Europe during the Second World War.
Though Pelosi stepped down from her leadership position in the Democratic Party last year, after leading the party for nearly two decades, she has remained active in Congress. Pelosi continues to attend House votes, participate in media appearances, and embark on international trips, maintaining a busy schedule despite her departure from top Democratic leadership.
Her hospitalization has drawn attention, but as of now, the specifics of her condition remain private, with a focus on her recovery and ongoing commitment to public service.
