Pence is showing his true colors.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, former Vice President Mike Pence expressed his inability to support former President Donald Trump in light of the serious allegations made against him in his recent indictment. Pence, who recently announced his candidacy for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, did not hold back in criticizing his former boss, whom he is now running against.

According to Newsmax, after carefully reviewing the indictment, Pence acknowledged the gravity of the allegations and stated that he could not defend what has been alleged. However, he emphasized that the President deserves his day in court and the opportunity to present a defense, prompting him to withhold judgment until Trump has responded.

Pence specifically disputed the claim that documents stored at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property in Palm Beach, Florida, contained sensitive information regarding US military vulnerabilities and its nuclear program. Nevertheless, Pence admitted his skepticism about the absence of political motives behind the Department of Justice’s decision to bring 37 charges against the former president.

Highlighting the apparent inconsistency in the treatment of similar actions, Pence argued that many Americans are deeply troubled by this indictment, particularly considering Hillary Clinton’s alleged comparable behavior during the 2016 campaign, which did not lead to an indictment.

Pence’s comments came shortly after Trump’s arraignment in a federal district court in Miami, Florida, following the recommendation from the DOJ special counsel, John L. Smith’s office, which was tasked with investigating the former president.

Last week, Pence announced his candidacy for the GOP nomination, joining a field that includes Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina. Despite being considered a long shot, Pence is determined to vie for the nomination.
