In a must-watch segment on Newsmax, former Trump adviser Dick Morris sounded the alarm: the Democratic Party is moving so far to the left, they might just hand their 2028 nomination to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) — a radical socialist who, Morris says, would be “massacred” by Republicans in the general election.
“They’re crazy enough to do it,” Morris told The Count. “And if they do, it’s over for them.”

Morris, a longtime political analyst with deep ties to the Trump team, explained how political parties often overcorrect after losing elections — and the result is usually a shift to extremes.
“When a party suffers a big loss,” Morris said, “many moderate voters jump ship. They register as independents or switch parties entirely.”
This pattern, he explained, has happened before. After Richard Nixon’s victory in 1968, angry Democrats turned to ultra-liberal George McGovern — and got crushed in 1972. Similar missteps followed Ronald Reagan’s landslide win, when the Democrat Party embraced fringe candidates like Walter Mondale and Michael Dukakis.

Morris believes the same dynamic is playing out again after Vice President Kamala Harris’ defeat at the hands of President Donald Trump in the last election.
“Millions of voters are abandoning the Democrat Party,” he said. “And what’s left? Just the hardcore radicals.”
With the moderate wing shrinking fast, Morris predicts that far-left activists will dominate the 2028 primaries. That could mean sidelining establishment names like California Gov. Gavin Newsom or Rahm Emanuel, and fast-tracking a socialist like AOC straight to the top of the ticket.

In Morris’s blunt assessment, the Democratic Party is now controlled by its most extreme elements.
“All that’s left in the Democrat Party now are the hard-core leftist extremists,” he said. “It’s like putting the most unhinged radicals in charge of the whole operation.”
If that happens, the 2028 election could become one of the biggest landslides in modern history — but the risk to America in the meantime, Morris warned, is real.
