Republicans need to not sleep on AOC, this is how she got into politics.
Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) issued a serious warning on Friday: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is no longer just a fringe figure—she’s become the undisputed leader of the Democrat Party.
“She’s tapped into what the radical base wants,” Lawler said. “She’s driving the whole party left.”
Following the Democrats’ crushing defeat in the 2024 election, party leadership is in disarray. But amid the power vacuum, AOC has stepped into the spotlight, aligning with socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders to push a hard-left agenda.
Socialist Agenda Gains Steam Across America
AOC and Sanders are crisscrossing the nation on their “Fighting Oligarchy” tour—a series of rallies promoting big government, wealth redistribution, and leftist activism.
These rallies are drawing thousands, even in red states. The message? More entitlements, less freedom, and open borders.
Political insiders are already speculating that Ocasio-Cortez is preparing for a 2028 presidential run. Others on the far left are calling for her to primary Chuck Schumer and replace him in the U.S. Senate.
Lawler: “AOC Will Crush Schumer in a Primary”
Appearing on Real Time with Bill Maher, Rep. Lawler pulled no punches.
“AOC will absolutely kick his a** in a primary,” he said. “She’s the leader of the Democrat Party right now.”
Lawler pointed out the glaring contrast between AOC’s radical energy and Schumer’s establishment politics, noting that AOC is now setting the tone for Democrat policies, while older Democrats struggle to keep up.
Democrat Civil War: Schumer Faces Backlash
In March, Sen. Schumer supported a Trump-backed funding bill to avoid a government shutdown. That move outraged his own party, including former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who saw it as a betrayal.
Many Democrats had hoped to use the shutdown as leverage against Republicans—but Schumer sided with President Trump and Elon Musk’s DOGE team instead, aiming to protect federal operations from deeper conservative-led budget cuts.
The incident further exposed the deep divisions inside the Democrat Party.
Polls: AOC Trails Only Kamala Harris for 2028
A new Quantus Insights poll shows AOC polling at 14% among Democrat voters for the 2028 nomination, second only to Kamala Harris, who leads with 30%.
That’s a major red flag for moderates hoping to pull the party away from socialism.
AOC Dodges 2028 Questions, Pushes Activist Talking Points
Asked about her future on Fox News, AOC deflected, instead sounding off on illegal immigration, healthcare dependency, and alleged First Amendment violations.
“It’s not about politics,” she claimed. “It’s about people being deported, locked up, kicked off Medicaid.”
Conservatives argue her comments are more about fanning outrage than solving problems.
Democrat Insiders: “We Need New Leadership”
Even some Democrat strategists are concerned. Charlotte Clymer, a liberal operative, told Newsweek that AOC’s rise is a symptom of leadership failure.
Political scientist Patricia Crouse echoed that concern, saying AOC and Sanders are the only ones willing to fight, even if their views are far too extreme for many Americans.
Ocasio-Cortez herself admitted on a podcast that she doesn’t even believe in the two-party system, and sees the Democrat Party as something to reshape from within.
Trump Ally: “Don’t Underestimate Her”
Monica Crowley, who served under President Trump, issued a caution to Republicans:
“Don’t underestimate AOC. She’s young, she’s vibrant, and she’s attractive. That makes her dangerous politically.”
With no slowdown in sight, and more events expected on the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, all signs point to AOC gaining more influence as 2028 approaches.
