Republicans Side With Newsom Over Trump

Why are some Republicans defending Newsom?

LOS ANGELES — California’s streets are on fire, and once again, Democrats are pointing fingers instead of restoring order.

Republican State Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones has had enough. While he rejected the idea of arresting Governor Gavin Newsom, he slammed the Democrat leadership for creating what he called a “crisis of chaos and ego.”

“I’m not here for the bloviating—on either side,” Jones told Newsweek. “It’s time to act like leaders, restore calm, and stop turning this into political theater.”

President Trump Responds with Strong Action Amid Lawless Riots

President Donald Trump took decisive action by deploying 2,000 more National Guard troops to Los Angeles—doubling the federal presence already in place to quell what began as protests and spiraled into violent riots targeting federal immigration enforcement operations.

Alongside the Guard, 700 active-duty Marines have been mobilized by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to protect ICE agents and federal property under siege in California.

“These aren’t protests anymore. This is lawlessness,” Trump said. “Democrats have lost control of their cities—and now they want to tie our hands.”

Governor Newsom Refuses to Cooperate, Sues Trump Administration

Despite the exploding violence, Governor Gavin Newsom rejected Trump’s help—claiming the deployment is illegal. His administration is suing the federal government and refusing to acknowledge the severity of the situation.

According to Newsom’s office, only 300 out of 2,000 Guard troops have been activated, with the rest sitting in armories while businesses burn and citizens fear for their safety.

Worse, this is the first federal deployment without a governor’s request since 1965, triggering a legal battle that pits state sovereignty against federal responsibility to protect the public.

California Democrats Stoke the Flames

Rather than calm tensions, prominent Democrats like Senator Adam Schiff, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, and Newsom himself have escalated rhetoric, calling the deployment a “threat to democracy.”

“This is about authoritarian tendencies,” Newsom ranted, calling Trump’s actions a power grab driven by ego.

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi warned that Trump’s enforcement of federal law is a “road to tyranny,” while ignoring the literal roadblocks, fires, and assaults happening across Los Angeles.

Tom Homan and Trump Say Newsom Should Be Held Accountable

Border Czar Tom Homan shocked liberal pundits by suggesting Newsom and other obstructionist officials could face arrest for interfering with federal law enforcement.

President Trump agreed:

“If I were Tom, I’d do it. It’d be great.”

While Homan later clarified he wasn’t calling for immediate arrests, he blasted Democrats for undermining law enforcement.

“They tell the National Guard to go home, but not the rioters. Why is their outrage aimed at the people trying to restore order?”

Senator Brian Jones: Use the Guard to Stop the Riots

Sen. Jones made clear: arresting Newsom isn’t the answer—but arresting violent agitators absolutely is.

“These aren’t peaceful protests. They’ve become riots,” he said. “When you’ve got Molotov cocktails, bricks flying, cars on fire, and private property being destroyed—this is criminal.”

Jones called on leaders to stop coddling criminals and back our law enforcement and troops, adding that the National Guard is a critical tool for defending communities under siege.

Federal Law vs. Left-Wing Lawlessness

Trump’s deployment is backed by Title 10, Section 12406 of U.S. law, which permits the federal government to activate the National Guard during rebellion or when local leaders fail to maintain order.

Although the Posse Comitatus Act limits federal military from enforcing civilian law, the Guard can secure federal sites, support ICE, and act as a deterrent—as long as state officials cooperate.

Legal experts warned the move raises constitutional questions—but for millions of Americans watching cities collapse under Democrat mismanagement, the question isn’t legality. It’s survival.

Tuberville: “Lock Him Up” – L.A. Has Turned into a Third-World Warzone

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) didn’t mince words on social media, writing:

“Lock him up. L.A. looks like a third-world country—anarchists are in charge, law enforcement is being attacked, and the rule of law is nonexistent.”

With Newsom lashing out at the President, and violence overtaking the streets, Trump’s firm leadership is once again what separates order from anarchy.

Bottom Line: Trump Acts, Democrats Flail

While California Democrats wage war on federal law and coddle criminal mobs, President Trump is doing what leaders are supposed to do: protect American lives, uphold the rule of law, and restore peace to our cities.

And for millions of Americans watching from afar, it’s clear:
We need less Newsom—and more Trump.
