Secret Service Confirms Investigation
The identity of the agent has not been released, but the Secret Service confirmed that an investigation is underway.
A Secret Service spokesperson said an agent assigned to the Vice Presidential Protective Division is under administrative investigation and could also face a criminal inquiry over allegations of mishandling sensitive operational and security information.
The agency added that it will not tolerate any conduct that could jeopardize the safety of officials under its protection.
CNN first reported that the agent had been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
Report Focused On JD Vance’s Travel
The investigation reportedly stems from an article published by MS Now that described frustration among some members of Vice President JD Vance’s protective detail over last-minute travel changes and special requests involving the second family.
According to the report, agents were once scheduled to accompany Vance and his son aboard Marine Two so the child could attend a golf lesson at Joint Base Andrews. The helicopter flight was later canceled because of bad weather, though the report claimed some agents questioned the request.
The article also alleged that Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance used Marine Two for several last-minute trips while searching for a home in northern Virginia.
White House Defends Travel Decisions
A senior administration official defended the vice president’s travel arrangements, saying unexpected White House events frequently require changes to carefully planned schedules.
The official noted that Vance remains committed to spending time with his young family while fulfilling his responsibilities as vice president.
The administration also argued that helicopter travel often creates fewer disruptions than large motorcades, which can shut down roads and delay thousands of commuters.
Usha Vance recently made a similar point during an interview, explaining that helicopter transportation helps reduce traffic congestion and minimizes disruptions for people attending church services, commuting to work, or simply going about their daily routines.
New Home Reports Draw Attention
Recent reports also revealed that the Vance family is renting two of the four homes located on Wolver Hill Farm, a 500-acre estate in Middleburg, Virginia, owned by federal contractor and data center developer Charles “Chuck” Kuhn.
The vice president’s office has not publicly commented on the reports.

Sean Curran, the director of the Secret Service, said the agency is confronting one of the most volatile threat environments in its history.
According to Curran, the Secret Service has already opened approximately 10,000 threat investigations this year.
He said threats against public officials continue to increase and described today’s security landscape as more volatile than at any point in his career.
JD Vance Continues Busy Schedule
Despite the investigation surrounding the alleged leak, Vice President Vance has maintained a demanding schedule.
He and Usha Vance recently welcomed their fourth child, son Alec Neel, making them the first sitting vice presidential family in more than 150 years to welcome a newborn while in office.
Vance has also remained deeply involved in foreign policy, including diplomatic efforts related to Iran before negotiations stalled following attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.
In addition, he has continued promoting his new book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, while carrying out his responsibilities in the Trump administration.
