Linda McMahon, President-elect Donald Trump’s new Secretary of Education, is not your typical choice for a role traditionally associated with academics and administrators. As the wife of WWE founder Vince McMahon, Linda’s background is deeply rooted in the world of professional wrestling—a far cry from the conventional path one might expect for an education leader. Like Trump, Linda is no stranger to the spotlight, and her career has been anything but traditional.
She served as the CEO of the WWE for years, helping the company grow into a global entertainment powerhouse. Her time in the ring has even seen her subjected to some of the most iconic wrestling moves, including a “Tombstone Piledriver” by the WWE star Kane, which went viral once again following her appointment.

In addition to her WWE career, McMahon has had political ambitions, running twice for a Senate seat in Connecticut, though she was defeated both times by Richard Blumenthal in 2010 and Chris Murphy in 2012. Despite these setbacks, McMahon remained active in supporting conservative causes. In 2016, she generously contributed to Trump’s presidential campaign and went on to serve as the Administrator of the Small Business Administration under his first term. During her time in office, McMahon’s leadership was widely recognized, even by her political opponents. Connecticut Democrats, including Blumenthal and Murphy, praised her ability and accomplishments.
After Trump’s first term, McMahon continued to champion his agenda, chairing the pro-Trump super PAC America First Action and later helping to found the America First Policy Institute. She also co-chaired Trump’s transition team as he prepared for another presidential run in 2024.
In her new role as Secretary of Education, McMahon is committed to championing school choice across the nation. President Trump highlighted that McMahon would work relentlessly to expand options for American families, giving parents the power to make the best educational choices for their children. This focus on empowering parents aligns with the values of conservatives who believe in limiting government control over education and expanding opportunity for all students.
