Elon’s Political Gamble Draws Strong Pushback from Trump Treasury Official

In a development stirring headlines across the country, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent responded forcefully Sunday to tech billionaire Elon Musk’s surprise announcement of a new political movement called the “America Party.”

While Bessent acknowledged that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—originally spearheaded by Musk—had policies that polled well with the public, he made it clear that Musk himself remains deeply unpopular with the American people.

Speaking to CNN’s Dana Bash on State of the Union, Bessent was asked if Musk’s creation of a new party worried the Trump administration.

“The ideas of DOGE were popular. But Elon was not,” Bessent said. “His polling numbers show it clearly.”

Bessent went on to suggest that the boards of directors at Musk’s major companies—like Tesla and SpaceX—may have grown frustrated with Musk’s political distractions.

“I believe his company boards want him to focus on what he does best—running businesses, not running for political power,” Bessent added.

Musk Launches “America Party,” Sparks Controversy

Over the weekend, Musk announced the creation of the “America Party,” claiming it would stand apart from both Republicans and Democrats. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Musk wrote:

“Twice as many Americans support a new political party—and now, you’re going to get one. Our country is being drained by corruption and reckless spending, proving we don’t have two parties—we have one failing system pretending to be a democracy.”

He added:

“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

While Musk attempted to frame the move as a stand against government corruption and career politicians, critics were quick to note the timing.

Musk’s Attacks on Trump Raise Eyebrows Among Conservatives

After parting ways with the Trump administration earlier this year, Musk launched a series of personal attacks against President Trump, even calling for his impeachment and reviving debunked rumors linking the President to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

For millions of older conservative Americans who have watched the political elite fail the country, Musk’s behavior appears more like a publicity stunt than serious leadership.

Trump Team Focuses on Policy, Not Publicity

While Musk ventures into murky political waters, the Trump administration remains focused on restoring the economy, securing the border, and putting America First.

Bessent’s remarks serve as a clear reminder: policy and performance—not celebrity gimmicks—win elections.

With Musk’s popularity waning and his business empire potentially at risk, his long-term political influence is uncertain.
