Biden won’t like this new plan floated by Trump.
In a recent podcast, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump suggested that students graduating from U.S. colleges should automatically receive green cards, which would allow them to remain in the United States.
During the All-In podcast, hosted by Silicon Valley tech investors, Trump was asked by Jason Calacanis about the importance of retaining high-skilled workers in the U.S., which is a critical issue for the tech industry. Trump agreed, proposing that graduates from both four-year and junior colleges should be granted green cards as part of their diploma.
A green card grants individuals the right to live and work permanently in the U.S. and is a pathway to citizenship. However, Trump did not specify whether this proposal would apply to all international students or just those on student visas.
The Trump campaign later stated that only the most skilled graduates, who can significantly contribute to America, would be allowed to stay, following a rigorous vetting process.
During his presidency from 2017 to 2021, Trump implemented measures to limit the use of skilled foreign workers, specifically through the H-1B visa program. His administration also attempted to force foreign students to leave the U.S. if their classes were entirely online during the COVID-19 pandemic, a decision that was later reversed due to legal challenges and opposition from educational institutions.
If re-elected in the upcoming election, Trump has promised to enforce strict immigration policies and has criticized current President Joe Biden’s approach to handling illegal immigration.
Additionally, two of the All-In podcast hosts, David Sacks and Chamath Palihapitiya, recently hosted a fundraiser for Trump in San Francisco, raising around $12 million for his campaign.
