Trump wins again.
The Senate Republicans are making remarkable strides in confirming key officials for President Donald Trump’s administration, proving their commitment to swiftly implementing the president’s agenda. Under the leadership of Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., the GOP has already confirmed 18 out of the 22 Cabinet nominees—well ahead of both previous administrations.
One of the latest successes was the confirmation of former Sen. Kelly Loeffler to lead the Small Business Administration (SBA). Her confirmation not only marked a significant victory for the Trump administration, but it also highlighted the Senate GOP’s efficiency. This achievement means Trump has outpaced President Joe Biden, who had only seen seven Cabinet nominations confirmed by the same point in 2021.
Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso’s office noted that even former President Barack Obama, during his first term, had only 17 Cabinet officials confirmed by February 19, 2009. This was a full 36 days into his presidency, far later than the swift confirmation process Trump has enjoyed. For comparison, Biden took 57 days to see 18 Cabinet officials confirmed in 2021.
In addition to confirming 18 Cabinet members, the GOP-led Senate has also confirmed important officials outside the Cabinet, such as Kash Patel as FBI Director. While Patel isn’t a Cabinet member, his confirmation represents another significant win for the administration.
“By the end of today, we will have confirmed 18 of President Trump’s nominees,” Barrasso stated confidently on the Senate floor. “These are bold and well-qualified nominees. This is more than what President Obama had in 2009, more than what President Biden had in 2021—more than twice as many.”
Despite the tough battles and occasional defections from their ranks, Republicans have successfully pushed through each of President Trump’s controversial picks, such as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. With just a few nominees remaining, including Lori Chavez-DeRemer for Secretary of Labor and Linda McMahon for Secretary of Education, the GOP is set to finish the job and ensure that President Trump’s bold, new direction for America is fully realized.
