Trump is questioning why the NFL would even do something like this.
President Donald J. Trump is firing back at the NFL after the league chose Bad Bunny, a Spanish-speaking rapper and outspoken critic of Trump’s administration, to headline the Super Bowl halftime show.
During an exclusive interview on Newsmax, President Trump didn’t hold back.
“I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s crazy,” Trump said. “They blame it on some promoter they hired. Totally ridiculous.”
The choice of Bad Bunny — a performer known for anti-Trump statements and political activism — immediately sparked controversy among fans and conservatives. Soon after the announcement, Homeland Security adviser Corey Lewandowski said ICE would have a visible presence at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, where Super Bowl 60 is set to take place in February.
However, the White House later clarified there was “no active plan” for immigration enforcement at the event.
Bad Bunny’s Defiant Message
Bad Bunny, fresh off hosting Saturday Night Live, celebrated his selection by calling it a win for Hispanic influence in America. Speaking in Spanish, he said:
“Our contribution to this country will never be erased.”
Then, switching to English, he added:
“If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.”
The remark angered many viewers who felt America’s biggest game should feature performers who respect the nation’s culture and language.
Trump: ‘It Demeans Football’
President Trump didn’t just criticize the halftime show — he also blasted the NFL’s new kickoff rule, saying it’s ruining the integrity of the game.
“It’s ridiculous,” Trump said. “The ball’s in the air, everyone’s standing still, and they call it safer. It’s not. It looks terrible and demeans football.”
Last month, Trump warned that the “sissification” of football is “bad for America” and “bad for the NFL,” arguing that political correctness is destroying sports just as it’s hurt schools and entertainment.
Trump’s Love of American Sports
Despite his criticism, Trump has remained one of the most visible presidents in sports history. He became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl, frequently appears at UFC fights, college football rivalries, and pro golf tournaments, and continues to be a strong supporter of American athletes and patriotic traditions.
The White House has not yet confirmed if President Trump plans to attend Super Bowl 60 — but if he does, expect fireworks both on and off the field.
