Trump’s AG Pam Bondi didn’t hold back.
Attorney General Pam Bondi delivered a blistering rebuke of Democrats and left-wing commentators on Thursday, accusing them of fueling dangerous anti-military rhetoric that may have contributed to the Thanksgiving Eve attack on National Guard members in Washington, D.C.
Bondi said the nonstop criticism of President Donald Trump’s deployment of federal troops has created a climate where criminals feel emboldened — and where political hatred has taken priority over public safety.
“This is what our country has come to,” Bondi told Fox & Friends. “These progressive left idiots are attacking the very heroes who keep them safe. It’s disgusting, and it’s dangerous.”
Suspect Tied to CIA Counterterrorism Unit
Officials identified the alleged shooter as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, a man the CIA confirmed had previously been involved with a counterterrorism unit in Afghanistan.
He now faces charges including:
- Assault with intent to kill
- Criminal possession of a weapon
- Multiple felony counts related to the ambush
Two young National Guard troops — Sarah Beckstrom, 20 and Andrew Wolfe, 24 — remain hospitalized. The attack has triggered national outrage and renewed focus on border security, foreign vetting, and violent crime in America’s cities.
Bondi said her office will push for the death penalty.
“This monster should not have been in our country,” she said. “We will do everything in our power to pursue the harshest punishment possible.”
Bondi: Democrats Attack Troops While Enjoying Their Own Security
Bondi highlighted what many conservatives see as blatant hypocrisy.
Democrat lawmakers and media figures who fiercely attack Trump’s plan to secure the capital — often calling it “authoritarian” or “an invasion” — all have heavy taxpayer-funded security of their own.
“What these lawmakers and their media allies are saying is despicable,” Bondi said. “Instead of demonizing our National Guard, they should be thanking them. We’re reviewing their statements to determine whether they encouraged this violence.”
Jeanine Pirro: ‘We Should Be Thanking These Troops’
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro blasted reporters who repeated Democrat claims that the National Guard “should never have been sent to D.C.”
“I don’t want to hear it,” Pirro said. “We should be thanking God the president acted quickly and brought in more law enforcement before the city spiraled further.”
President Trump has ordered 500 additional troops to reinforce security in the district.
Rep. Brian Mast Blames Biden’s Afghanistan Withdrawal
Veteran and Florida Republican Rep. Brian Mast directly linked the shooting to the Biden administration’s disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal and failed vetting procedures.
“Let’s be clear,” Mast said. “The reckless, lazy, and dishonest decisions made by Joe Biden, Jake Sullivan, Antony Blinken, and Jen Psaki led directly to this shooting.”
Mast said Biden officials “lied day after day” about the vetting of Afghan individuals during the withdrawal — and that the consequences are now being felt on American streets.
