Trump, GOP Give Up To Democrats?

A shocking prediction from a former Trump insider warns that Republicans may soon cave to Democrat pressure — and conservatives aren’t happy.

Washington, D.C. — Former Trump official Marc Short is sounding the alarm — and his message isn’t what Republican voters want to hear.

During an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, Short, who served as chief of staff to Vice President Mike Pence, predicted that Republicans may ultimately surrender to Democrat demands to extend ObamaCare subsidies just to end the government shutdown.

“Sadly, I think Republicans are going to cave in the end,” Short admitted. “Democrats were shrewd — they loaded ObamaCare subsidies into the plan to buy off the insurance companies. It’s classic D.C. corruption.”

Short said the move locked in support for ObamaCare and drove up costs for millions of American families.

“When the government takes over your health care, prices always go up,” he added. “We’ve seen more than a 100% increase in health care premiums. Democrats caused this mess, and now they’re trying to use it to their political advantage.”

Shutdown Politics Heating Up

The government shutdown has now entered its sixth day, with Democrats refusing to compromise on Medicare funding and Affordable Care Act subsidies, both set to expire by the end of the year.

The Senate is scheduled to vote again Monday on a Democrat-backed spending bill. If it fails, lawmakers will move to a Republican-supported stopgap measure already passed in the House — one that keeps the government open without giving in to left-wing demands.

Still, the political blame game is in full swing. Recent polls show 39% of Americans blame President Trump and Republicans, while 30% blame Democrats. But inside the White House, officials insist the real cost is being paid by taxpayers.

White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett warned Monday that the shutdown is draining the U.S. economy at a rate of $15 billion per week — money lost to what conservatives call political blackmail by the left.

The Bigger Picture

For many Trump supporters, the situation feels all too familiar: weak Republicans bowing to media pressure while Democrats play hardball.

Conservatives fear that if the GOP caves on ObamaCare subsidies, it could undermine years of effort to restore free-market health care and undo President Trump’s progress in reducing costs through deregulation and competition.

“This isn’t just about keeping the government open,” one senior GOP strategist told The Federalist. “It’s about whether Republicans still have the backbone to fight for the America First agenda.”

Bottom Line for Conservatives

Democrats are playing a long game — using fear, spin, and shutdown pressure to protect ObamaCare and push Washington further left.

If Republicans give in, it could mark a major political setback heading into the 2026 midterms — and a reminder that the Swamp never stops fighting back against President Trump’s movement.
