This is what happens when you disobey Trump’s orders.
As the “March Against Mills” approaches this Saturday, a growing movement to recall Maine Governor Janet Mills is gaining significant traction. An online petition calling for her removal has already garnered over 22,000 signatures, demonstrating the growing frustration among Maine residents with her policies and leadership.
Recently, Governor Mills clashed with former President Donald Trump over his executive order designed to prevent transgender athletes from participating in girls’ and women’s sports. During a tense exchange at the White House, Trump told Mills she must comply with the order, warning that Maine would lose federal funding if she did not. Mills, however, stood firm, responding, “We’ll see you in court.” She reiterated that her administration would continue to follow state and federal laws, but Trump insisted, “Well, we are the federal law,” and threatened that Maine would lose critical funding if she refused to follow the directive.
In response, Trump launched a Title IX investigation targeting Maine, along with California and Minnesota, for noncompliance with his executive order.
Melissa Moulton, the driving force behind the recall petition on Change.org, is also the organizer of the “March Against Mills” event on Facebook. In her petition, Moulton explains that she and many other Mainers feel disconnected from their governor’s policies. “The rural-urban divide in Maine has only widened under Governor Mills’ leadership,” she writes. “Her policies undermine economic growth and fail to align with the values of the majority of Mainers. It’s time for change, and we must hold our leaders accountable.”
The march is expected to attract around 350 attendees, with more than 2,300 people expressing interest in the event. Set to begin at 10 a.m. ET at the Maine State House, the rally marks a pivotal moment in the movement to recall Governor Mills and reshape the direction of Maine’s leadership.
