Now this is awesome!
As President-elect Donald Trump begins his second term in office this Monday, a new proposal in Tennessee could lead to a major public honor: the renaming of Nashville International Airport to “Trump International Airport.” The bill, introduced by Tennessee State Representative Todd Warner, aims to change the name by January 1, 2026, if passed by the state legislature.
This initiative is more than just a local issue; it reflects the broader efforts by Republican lawmakers to recognize Trump’s leadership and the impact of his presidency. With Tennessee’s Republican-majority legislature, which boasts a commanding 75-24 advantage, the bill has a strong chance of passing.
House Bill 217, introduced by Warner, would direct the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority to revise its legal documents, trademarks, and signage to officially adopt the new name. In the interim, the airport would operate under its current name but with an added “doing business as” designation of “Trump International Airport.”
Renaming public spaces in Trump’s honor is not a new idea. In April 2024, a group of Republican lawmakers in Congress proposed renaming Washington Dulles International Airport after Trump, although the bill has not advanced beyond the committee stage. This kind of proposal has been a point of pride for Trump supporters, who view his presidency as a time of economic prosperity, national strength, and a return to American values.
Despite the push from Republicans, local Democrats in Nashville have resisted such moves in the past. In 2023, there was a failed attempt to rename a street after Trump, which sparked heated debate. However, the renaming of the airport would still be a significant symbol of recognition for the former president, especially as millions of travelers from around the world pass through the airport each year.
The Tennessee General Assembly is set to review the proposal in upcoming sessions. If the bill moves forward, Nashville could officially welcome visitors to “Trump International Airport” in 2026, cementing Trump’s legacy in a way that resonates with many Republicans across the country.
