Here’s what conservative voters need to know.
In a move that’s raising eyebrows across Washington, Nebraska Republican Congressman Don Bacon — a vocal critic of President Donald J. Trump — is stepping down. Bacon will not seek re-election in 2026, according to multiple media outlets.
The five-term representative, known for breaking ranks with his own party and aligning with Democrat talking points, is expected to make his retirement official on Monday. Though his office hasn’t confirmed the news, Bacon has already posted several farewell-style messages on X (formerly Twitter), fueling speculation.
🔵 Democrat-Tilting District in the Spotlight
Bacon’s district — Nebraska’s 2nd, which includes the liberal-leaning city of Omaha — has consistently voted against President Trump. In 2020, the district backed Joe Biden. In 2024, it voted for Kamala Harris over Trump, making it a key battleground.
Bacon narrowly held his seat in the last election, winning by just under 2%. With his exit, Democrats are already eyeing the district as a potential pickup in the 2026 midterms. If they succeed, it could threaten the Republican majority in the House.
🛑 A History of Anti-Trump Rhetoric
Bacon, 61, has made a name for himself by publicly criticizing President Trump, particularly over foreign policy. He has repeatedly sided with globalist narratives regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Earlier this year, Bacon accused Trump of showing “a pro-Russian view” and called him “an appeaser to Russia.” In May, after Trump condemned a brutal Russian airstrike but criticized Ukraine’s President Zelensky in the same post, Bacon erupted.
“The beginning of Trump’s message made sense, but the rest completely missed the mark,” Bacon said. “Criticizing Zelensky while Putin is launching attacks on Ukrainian civilians is the wrong approach.”
He even claimed that Trump’s stance was “hurting his credibility” and that “Putin is making a mockery of Trump.”
✅ A Chance to Elect a True Conservative
Now that Bacon is stepping aside, conservatives have an opportunity to send someone to Washington who actually supports President Trump’s America First agenda. This swing district could be reclaimed with the right candidate — one who will fight for border security, lower taxes, energy independence, and American sovereignty.
With the 2026 elections looming and the left eager to gain ground, replacing RINOs like Bacon with real conservative fighters is more important than ever.
