Trump has made things very clear.
On Tuesday, President-elect Donald Trump urged Senate Republicans to take a stand against the Democrats’ rush to confirm judicial nominees in the final months of the Biden administration. With a frantic push underway to pack the courts with left-wing judges, Trump called for GOP Senators to “hold the line” and block any further confirmations before Inauguration Day.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump warned, “The Democrats are trying to stack the Courts with Radical Left Judges on their way out the door. Republican Senators need to Show Up and Hold the Line — No more Judges confirmed before Inauguration Day!”
Senate Democrats, led by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, have been working overtime to push through as many of Joe Biden’s judicial nominees as they can before the end of the year. This has led to late-night votes and even the possibility of weekend and holiday sessions, including over the Christmas recess, to push through these confirmations.
Republicans, however, are doing everything they can to slow down the process. They’ve forced time-consuming procedural votes and strategic delays to prevent Democrats from rushing through the confirmations. As of Monday, the Democrat-controlled Senate had confirmed 216 of Biden’s judicial picks, with a few dozen more still pending. In contrast, during President Trump’s term, Republicans confirmed 234 of his nominees to the federal bench.
Progressive voices like Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) have also been vocal, pushing Schumer to use every last minute of the year to confirm judges, arguing that these appointments will be shielded from future removal by any incoming administration.
Republicans must remain vigilant to prevent the left from cementing their radical agenda in the courts for years to come. The time is now for Republicans to stay united and protect the judiciary from further liberal encroachment.
