Trump Declares War On Republican Senator

Trump isn’t playing games with these RINOs.

President Donald Trump ignited a political firestorm inside the Republican Party on Saturday, endorsing Rep. Julia Letlow to challenge Sen. Bill Cassidy in a potential GOP primary that could reshape Louisiana politics.

The move comes after weeks of growing tension between Trump and Cassidy, largely fueled by the senator’s outspoken criticism of recent changes to the national childhood vaccine schedule under the Trump administration.

Trump Backs Letlow as a “Total Winner”

In a strong endorsement posted on Truth Social, President Trump made clear he sees Letlow as a reliable conservative who will stand firmly with his America First agenda.

“I know Julia well, have seen her tested at the highest and most difficult levels, and she is a TOTAL WINNER,” Trump wrote. “A proud mother of two, Julia has ALWAYS delivered for Louisiana and will continue doing so in the United States Senate.”

Trump said Letlow would push pro-growth economic policies, work to lower taxes and red tape, stand with Louisiana’s farmers and fishermen, defend the state’s energy sector, advance American energy independence, strengthen border security, combat migrant-related crime, uphold public safety, support service members and veterans, and safeguard Second Amendment rights.

If Letlow chooses to enter the race, she must formally file her candidacy before the Feb. 13 deadline.

Letlow Embraces Trump Endorsement

Letlow responded quickly on X, thanking President Trump for his support and signaling she is seriously considering the run.

Letlow said she is grateful for President Trump’s support, adding that her goal is to help build a safer, stronger country for future generations, grounded in conservative principles.

She added that Louisiana voters deserve steady, unwavering leadership that puts families, jobs, and national security first.

Cassidy Pushes Back Confidently

Cassidy, however, dismissed the challenge and expressed confidence he would win a primary contest.

Cassidy said he is seeking another term as a results-focused conservative committed to serving Louisiana, adding that he is confident he would prevail if Rep. Letlow enters the race.

Vaccine Policy at the Center of the Dispute

The rift between Trump and Cassidy has been building for months, largely over the senator’s public criticism of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and vaccine policy changes.

Cassidy, a longtime physician, strongly objected after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reduced the number of recommended childhood vaccines from 17 to 11.

“As a doctor who treated patients for decades, my priority has always been protecting children and families,” Cassidy wrote, warning that preventable illnesses remain a concern.

He emphasized that the vaccine schedule is not a mandate but a recommendation, arguing that sudden changes without adequate transparency could create confusion among parents and medical professionals.

Cassidy has invited Kennedy to testify before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, though no hearing date has been scheduled.

A Major GOP Test of Loyalty

With President Trump now openly backing a possible primary challenger, the Louisiana Senate race is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched Republican battles in the country.

The showdown could become a defining test of loyalty to Trump’s agenda — and a preview of how Republican voters nationwide may respond heading into the next election cycle.
