This is historic.
As of this morning the Supreme Court followed through and overturned Roe v. Wade just a few moments ago.
This decision officially ends the constitutional right to an abortion and now individual states will have the decision of whether or not to allow, limit, or ban abortion in their states.
According to Fox News, Justice Samuel Alito explained, “We end this opinion where we began. Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives.”
As of right now 13 Republican states have already set in place “trigger laws” stating that if Roe v. Wade was overturned, they would immediately restrict access to abortion.
Georgia, Iowa, Ohio and South Carolina have laws which ban abortion after six weeks. This law until now was ruled unconstitutional however it can now be revisited since Roe has been overturned.
