Texas Democrat’s race-baiting rant backfires after embarrassing slip-up from Al Sharpton
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) once again went on the attack against Republicans — and once again, it didn’t go as planned. Speaking at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival last week, Crockett accused the GOP of being “racist” in front of a left-leaning crowd. But before she could even finish her point, the spotlight shifted when Rev. Al Sharpton botched her name, introducing her as “Jasmine Campbell.”
The gaffe happened while Sharpton was recalling his work on Shirley Chisholm’s 1972 presidential campaign, calling Crockett the next in line after Chisholm, Barbara Jordan, Maxine Waters, and Ayanna Pressley. The slip drew awkward chuckles as Crockett — who is reportedly so image-obsessed that she uses her own headshot as her phone’s lock screen — tried to play it off.
Sharpton didn’t stop there. Taking aim at black men who support President Donald Trump, he sneered, “Well, you got enough swagger now?” The remark was a not-so-subtle jab at conservatives in the black community who refuse to bow to the left’s identity politics.
Crockett then doubled down, telling the audience that most black Americans “are not Republicans” because “Y’all racist. I can’t hang out with the KKK and them.” She even admitted that most black Americans hold “very conservative values,” but still smeared conservatives as being tied to “neo-Nazis.”
The Texas Democrat also took aim at President Trump directly, claiming he’s trying to “make us feel as if the inevitable is that he is going to be the dictator of the United States.” She urged the audience to “find your role in this fight,” comparing her anti-Trump activism to the civil rights movement — a comparison many see as both overblown and politically desperate.
For conservatives, Crockett’s comments are just the latest example of the radical left’s obsession with name-calling and fearmongering instead of serious debate. While Democrats keep playing the race card, President Trump continues focusing on securing America’s borders, protecting jobs, and defending traditional values — issues that matter to millions of Americans who are tired of the left’s divisive rhetoric.
