Americans have Democrats to thank for this injustice.
A recent report has revealed that Mississippi is grappling with over $100 million in costs tied to illegal immigration. This figure highlights a significant burden on the state’s finances, which Republican Governor Tate Reeves attributes directly to the Biden-Harris administration’s failure to enforce effective border security.
According to the Mississippi State Auditor’s report, the state is home to approximately 22,000 illegal immigrants. This influx is costing taxpayers more than $100 million annually. Of this total, over $25 million is allocated to educating illegal immigrant students in public schools alone. Additionally, $77 million is spent on healthcare services for these immigrants and their children, while $1.7 million is used to incarcerate those who commit crimes.
Governor Tate Reeves criticized the Biden-Harris administration, asserting that their “intentional failure” to manage the border is forcing states like Mississippi to cover the financial fallout. He emphasized that the administration’s policies are not only jeopardizing national security but also straining state budgets. “The current administration’s failure is evident, and it’s costing us dearly,” Reeves told Fox News Digital. “Kamala Harris’s track record as the border czar has been disastrous, exacerbating the crisis instead of resolving it. The solution lies in electing leaders who will prioritize securing our borders—like Donald Trump.”
State Auditor Shad White echoed these concerns, noting that Mississippi’s public schools, hospitals, and prisons are bearing the brunt of these costs. The report indicates that due to limitations on data collection, the actual expenses may be even higher than reported.
The findings come at a crucial time, as border security remains a top priority for voters. Republicans have pointed fingers at the Biden administration’s policy changes, claiming that the rollback of Trump-era measures has led to a surge in illegal immigration. While the Biden administration has called for additional funding and reform, Republicans argue that these requests have not been adequately addressed.
In response to the crisis, Vice President Kamala Harris has suggested that bipartisan solutions are necessary, promising to revive and sign a bipartisan border security bill if elected president. She emphasized the need for comprehensive reform that balances national security with the country’s heritage of immigration.
The debate over immigration policy and border security will undoubtedly continue to be a pivotal issue leading up to the November election, with Republicans urging a return to more stringent enforcement measures.
