Even America’s most liberal voters are now waking up. Took them long enough.
In recent years, a growing number of residents in Democrat-controlled cities are questioning the leadership of their local officials, particularly in the face of the migrant crisis. Many believe President-elect Donald Trump’s appeal in these cities stems from dissatisfaction with how liberal leaders have handled the surge of illegal immigration, particularly in sanctuary cities like Chicago and Aurora, Colorado.
During a recent appearance on The Ingraham Angle, former Chicago Democrat-turned-Trump-supporter P-Rae Easley and Aurora City Council member Danielle Jurinsky discussed the growing backlash against liberal policies that have allowed unchecked immigration to strain public resources. Easley highlighted a historic moment in Chicago when the city council, for the first time, voted unanimously to oppose the mayor’s budget proposal to allocate additional funding for migrants. “Chicago is changing,” Easley said, noting that the vote signaled a shift away from the Democratic Party’s long-standing control of the city’s politics.
Since 2021, Chicago has welcomed over 51,000 migrants, a burden that has stretched the city’s resources to their breaking point. The city has already spent over $574 million on housing and supporting these migrants. Easley argued that many Chicagoans, across racial and socioeconomic lines, are beginning to reject the Democrat-dominated political system that has pushed such policies. “The people are waking up,” she said. “We are no longer owned by the Democratic Party.”
Meanwhile, in Aurora, Colorado, the migrant crisis has become particularly alarming, as violent gangs—such as those from Venezuela—have begun to dominate certain neighborhoods. Jurinsky pointed to the growing crime and instability in her city as a direct result of liberal immigration policies. She argued that Colorado’s liberal Governor, Jared Polis, is ignoring the concerns of law-abiding residents, putting American citizens second to the needs of illegal immigrants.
Jurinsky also warned that if Democrats like Polis continue to obstruct President Trump’s planned mass deportations, it could backfire politically. “If they block Trump’s deportation plan, they risk alienating voters in future elections,” she said. “American citizens are tired of being ignored in favor of policies that let chaos take root in our communities.”
As the new administration prepares to launch a massive operation to remove illegal immigrants from the country, the pushback against liberal immigration policies is gaining momentum. The Trump administration has pledged to use all available legal means to address the crisis, including invoking the Alien Enemies Act to target criminal gangs like those in Aurora. As these cities struggle to cope with the effects of illegal immigration, more and more residents are looking to Washington for relief—and they are finding hope in the strong stance on immigration that Trump’s leadership promises.
