Conservatives Sound the Alarm on Democrat Sanctuary Policies Amid Rising Crime Concerns
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is once again making headlines—this time for doubling down on his support for illegal immigrants and refusing to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.
Speaking at a town hall meeting with other progressive leaders, including Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Frey announced that Minneapolis will remain a sanctuary city, regardless of federal immigration policy.
“Minneapolis will continue to be a safe haven for undocumented immigrants,” Frey declared. “Regardless of who you are or where you come from, Minneapolis is a place where you should be proud to call home.”
Frey Refuses to Support Federal Immigration Law
Mayor Frey’s comments reaffirm his city’s “separation ordinance,” which prevents local law enforcement from questioning residents about their immigration status—even if they are in the U.S. illegally.
In a previous speech, Frey openly addressed those here illegally:
“We love you; we care about you… and we will do anything in our power to help.”
Critics argue that this kind of policy prioritizes illegal immigrants over law-abiding citizens, placing public safety at risk.
Republican Leaders Push Back
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) responded sharply to the mayor’s stance, urging him to focus on the safety of his constituents.
“Mayor Frey needs to quit shielding criminal illegal immigrants and start prioritizing the safety of Minneapolis residents,” Emmer told Fox News Digital.
He added:
“If anyone is entitled to a true safe haven, it’s the people of Minneapolis who have had to endure the fallout from Mayor Frey’s poor leadership.”
ICE Arrests Raise Questions About Sanctuary Policies
In a letter to Mayor Frey, Emmer and fellow Minnesota Republicans pointed out serious public safety risks:
- A known al-Shabaab terrorist was arrested in Minneapolis in 2023 after entering the country illegally.
- In nearby Saint Paul, three child sex predators, all illegal immigrants, were apprehended just last month.
“Interfering with federal actions designed to ensure the security of your constituents is not only irresponsible—it’s dangerous,” the letter stated.
Conservatives Demand Accountability
As violent crime and drug trafficking rise across sanctuary cities, conservative lawmakers are calling for action.
“Your city and your constituents deserve to be protected,” the letter continued. “It’s time to put the safety of American families before the interests of criminal illegal aliens.”
This latest clash over immigration enforcement is part of a broader national debate as President Trump and Republican leaders push for stronger borders, safer communities, and the end of sanctuary city policies.
What’s Next for Minneapolis?
With rising crime, growing concerns about national security, and a city government openly defying federal immigration law, the question remains:
Who is Mayor Frey really protecting?
