Democrats want control of the Supreme Court by any means.

According to recent reports, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has urged for the impeachment of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. This follows allegations that Thomas received opulent gifts from a Republican donor who is a billionaire over several decades.

According to The Hill, Democrats are alleging that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas accepted extravagant trips and excursions on private yachts and jets owned by Harlan Crow, a wealthy businessman from Dallas, for several years. The investigation further discovered that Justice Thomas did not disclose these travels. Crow is known for his generous donations to Republican political candidates.

The purported actions were condemned by Ocasio-Cortez, who described them as a level of corruption that was “almost cartoonish.”

Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter and wrote, “This is beyond party or partisanship. This degree of corruption is shocking — almost cartoonish. Thomas must be impeached.”

In addition, the congresswoman from New York asserted that the revelations of Justice Thomas’s purported misconduct cast Chief Justice John Roberts and the Supreme Court in a negative light.

“Barring some dramatic change, this is what the Roberts court will be known for: rank corruption, erosion of democracy, and the stripping of human rights,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

After the release of the report, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) joined Ocasio-Cortez in condemning Justice Thomas’s alleged actions. He further called for an independent investigation into the matter.

“This cries out for the kind of independent investigation that the Supreme Court — and only the Supreme Court, across the entire government— refuses to perform,” Whitehouse claimed.

Crow did not deny the allegations that he had offered trips to Justice Thomas over the years. In a statement, he clarified that the gifts were not requested by the Supreme Court justice.
