The witch hunt continues.
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) announced Thursday that she is launching an investigation into the Trump administration’s historic plan to dismantle the Department of Education and return control of education to the states.
In a post on X, Warren claimed she is “hearing from students, parents, teachers, and borrowers” who oppose President Trump’s sweeping education reforms. “Their stories matter—and they are why I’m in this fight,” Warren wrote.
Warren’s probe will be conducted under her newly launched “Save Our Schools” campaign, according to ABC News. She plans to collect feedback from left-wing organizations, including the NAACP, the American Federation of Teachers, and the National Education Association — groups that have long fought against returning education power to local communities.
In a series of letters, Warren demanded information about how President Trump’s push to close the Department of Education might affect what she calls “affordable and high-quality” public schooling. She set a deadline for responses by May 22.
Meanwhile, Education Secretary Linda McMahon, leading the Trump administration’s effort, has made the case that taxpayer dollars should go back to the states — empowering local parents, teachers, and school boards rather than unelected federal bureaucrats.
“Washington has been failing our students for decades,” McMahon said in a recent statement. “It’s time to give families real control over their children’s education.”
Critics like Warren warn that some school districts could face funding disruptions, especially for federal programs such as free school lunches for low-income students. In her letter, Warren cited concerns from states preparing for potential changes.
However, conservatives argue that returning educational authority to the states is a crucial step toward improving school choice, reducing wasteful spending, and restoring accountability to the American education system.
Despite Trump’s bold push, Congress would still need to vote to permanently shut down the Department of Education — a move that could redefine the future of American schooling.
Senator Warren has pledged to fight any attempts to downsize the federal education system. But millions of Americans — especially parents and taxpayers — support President Trump’s vision of smaller government, stronger local schools, and true educational freedom.
