Can she actually pull this off?
Senator Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) recently claimed that Georgia has become a battleground state for Democrats, attributing this shift to Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign. In a discussion on MSNBC with Rev. Al Sharpton, Ossoff praised Harris’s campaign launch, stating it has surpassed his high expectations.
Ossoff highlighted Harris’s ability to unify the Democratic Party around her candidacy, suggesting that her campaign is gaining significant traction. He emphasized that Harris’s campaign is invigorating volunteers and grassroots supporters nationwide, thereby making Georgia a competitive state in the upcoming election.
Recent polls have shown a notable shift in Georgia’s political landscape. Although President Biden had struggled against former President Trump in Georgia prior to exiting the race, new polls indicate that Harris is now performing competitively. A recent The Hill/Emerson College poll showed Harris just 2 points behind Trump, a figure within the margin of error.
Ossoff predicted a tight race in Georgia, expressing confidence in Harris’s ability to secure a victory. He drew comparisons to the 2020 election, noting that a substantial effort, similar to that which helped Biden win Georgia and secure two Senate runoff victories in 2021, will be required to win the state again.
Harris has notably outperformed Biden among key demographics, including young voters, Black voters, and Hispanic voters, all of whom are crucial in swing states like Georgia and Arizona. This strong performance has allowed her to consolidate Democratic support, with her campaign already gathering enough committed delegates to effectively secure the party’s nomination.
The focus now shifts to who will be selected as Harris’s vice presidential running mate. Recent polling shows Harris trailing Trump by 1 to 4 points in three surveys conducted since her campaign launch. Despite these close figures, her campaign’s momentum suggests a potentially competitive and dynamic race ahead.
