Musk Cuts All Ties To Trump?

Musk made one thing very clear to the media.

Washington, D.C. — Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, whose time as a senior adviser to President Donald Trump officially ended Friday, made it clear in a Sunday interview that while he stands behind the administration’s core mission, he refuses to be made the fall guy for every action taken in Washington.

In a wide-ranging conversation on CBS’s Sunday Morning, Musk said he continues to back many of President Trump’s bold efforts to reduce government overreach, eliminate wasteful federal spending, and restore efficiency to Washington. But he drew the line at taking responsibility for all government decisions.

“I don’t agree with every single move made by the administration,” Musk said, “but I agree with a great deal of it—particularly the parts that focus on smaller government and smarter spending.”

Musk: Reforming Government Isn’t Popular with the Bureaucracy

Musk played a leading role in launching the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a Trump-backed initiative that sought to downsize bloated federal agencies and cut unnecessary programs.

The results were immediate—and controversial.

“DOGE became the scapegoat for everything,” Musk explained. “If someone heard about a budget cut, even if it wasn’t real, they blamed DOGE. People actually thought their Social Security checks were at risk, which is just completely false.”

Musk emphasized that the reforms never targeted Social Security or Medicare, programs critical to millions of Americans. Instead, DOGE focused on wasteful administrative layers, excessive staffing, and redundant operations across multiple federal departments.

Standing With Trump, Even Without a Title

Although his official advisory role has ended, Musk says he will continue to offer guidance to President Trump when needed.

“I’m still available to advise the President,” he said. “But I don’t want to be used by the media as a shield—or a target—for every political decision made in Washington.”

The Bottom Line for American Taxpayers

For millions of older Americans concerned about out-of-control spending, inflation, and the long-term health of Social Security, Musk’s message resonates: Reform is necessary—but must be honest and focused.

His firm stance against government waste, paired with a measured approach to criticism, reflects a broader frustration many conservatives feel about being misrepresented or silenced.
