Even Schumer didn’t do this.
In a stunning political twist, former President Barack Obama is being accused of quietly throwing his weight behind the far-left movement once again — this time in the New York City mayoral race, where socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani is shaking up the Democratic establishment.
According to The New York Times, Obama personally called Mamdani on Saturday, praising his campaign and offering to serve as a “sounding board” as the 34-year-old politician pushes his radical agenda for the nation’s largest city. The conversation reportedly lasted about 30 minutes — the second such call between the two since June — and has set off alarm bells among moderates and conservatives alike.
Obama’s Influence Raises Eyebrows
While Obama hasn’t issued a formal endorsement, his personal outreach is being viewed as a clear signal of approval for Mamdani — a state assemblyman known for promoting defund-the-police policies, tax increases, and open-border immigration measures that critics warn would devastate New York’s already struggling economy.
“Your campaign has been impressive to watch,” Obama reportedly told Mamdani during the call, discussing staffing challenges and his so-called “affordability agenda.”
But to many, Obama’s praise sounds less like mentorship and more like encouragement for the radical left’s continued takeover of the Democratic Party.
Even Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a fellow New York Democrat, appeared uneasy when pressed by reporters on whether he would support Mamdani. His only answer: “We’re continuing to talk.”
Conservatives Sound the Alarm
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) blasted Obama’s call as proof that the Democratic Party has been “hijacked by the socialist left.”
In an October 28 memo, the committee stated that Hakeem Jeffries’ backing of Zohran Mamdani “proves what our research has long indicated — the Democratic Party has fallen under the control of the radical left.” The memo went on to describe Mamdani as “a socialist adversarial to American values, promoting an agenda that mirrors the Communist Manifesto, openly opposing law enforcement, and receiving support from organizations with alleged links to terrorist groups such as Hamas.”
Republicans say Obama’s outreach once again exposes his long-term plan to reshape the party — and the country — around big-government socialism and anti-law-enforcement ideology.
Democrats Divided as Election Nears
Obama’s involvement highlights deep fractures inside the Democratic Party. While younger progressives have embraced Mamdani, older and more moderate Democrats have been hesitant and divided — fearing his far-left proposals could drive voters straight into the arms of Republicans in 2025.
At the same time, former Governor Andrew Cuomo, now campaigning as an independent, and Republican contender Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the Guardian Angels, have both cautioned that New York’s future hangs in the balance.
“Two names, one mask: Mamdani = Cuomo,” Sliwa wrote on X. “Vote Curtis Sliwa and end the horror show.”
Even with Obama’s quiet backing, polling shows Mamdani’s lead narrowing as voters express frustration over rising crime, higher taxes, and homelessness — all issues that have worsened under Democrat control.
Election Day Countdown
Early voting is already underway across New York City, and Election Day is set for Tuesday, November 4. The race has become a high-stakes battle between socialism and common sense — and Obama’s latest move could end up deciding which vision wins.
As America watches New York, many conservatives believe this is more than a local contest. It’s a preview of what’s coming nationwide if the radical left continues to control the Democratic Party — and a reminder of why President Trump’s message of law, order, and American strength still resonates with millions.
