Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) wasted no time taking a victory lap Tuesday night — and a jab at President Donald Trump — after Democrats scored several major election wins across the country.
In an interview with CNN’s Abby Phillip, Ocasio-Cortez claimed the results were a “message” for Trump and his administration. She argued that Americans are “appalled” by what she called “the cowardice” of Republican leaders in Congress, saying voters are “seeing Trump for who he really is.”
“They see Donald Trump now as a handmaiden to billionaires and corporate interests,” Ocasio-Cortez declared, echoing the same socialist rhetoric she and Bernie Sanders have pushed for years.
AOC Praises Socialist Ally’s Victory in New York
The far-left congresswoman praised New York City’s new mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist who defeated both Republican Curtis Sliwa and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent.
“He was fighting a war on two fronts and still won resoundingly,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
Mamdani’s win — with just over 50% of the vote — was celebrated by Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who both joined him onstage in Brooklyn. Sanders even called it “one of the greatest political upsets in modern American history,” adding, “We can build a government that represents working people, not the 1%.”
Critics, however, say Mamdani’s victory shows how deeply socialist politics have taken root inside the Democratic Party — especially in big cities dominated by liberal voters.
Democrats Celebrate — But Conservatives See Warning Signs
Democrats also swept gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia, with progressives claiming it signals momentum heading into 2026.
But conservative analysts argue the results are no reflection of national sentiment, pointing to overwhelming union funding, media bias, and Democrat-controlled cities that tilt the scales in blue states.
“This wasn’t a fair fight,” one GOP strategist told Fox News Digital. “It was a battle between taxpayer-funded machines and regular Americans just trying to be heard.”
AOC’s Message: Double Down on Socialism
Ocasio-Cortez claimed the Democratic Party “cannot last much longer” if it continues to “undercut young and diverse progressives.” Her comments reflect the growing civil war inside the Left, with establishment Democrats like Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi clashing with radicals such as AOC and the “Squad.”
For many conservatives, her remarks are yet another reminder of the Democrats’ shift toward socialism and the growing divide between working-class Americans and elite politicians in Washington.
