Haley isn’t backing down against Trump.

Nikki Haley, a Republican candidate for the GOP presidential nomination, has joined the chorus of voices within her party expressing criticism of former President Trump’s recent comments regarding General Mark Milley. During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” with Kristen Welker, Haley characterized Trump’s remarks as irresponsible and unwarranted. She emphasized the importance of showing utmost respect to anyone who has served the country, highlighting her personal connection as the spouse of a deployed combat veteran. Haley’s sentiments align with those of other Republican figures who have also rebuked Trump for his remarks, including GOP presidential contenders Chris Christie and former Vice President Mike Pence.

According to The Hill, In a previous social media post, Trump had suggested that General Milley deserved the death penalty for his actions involving communication with China during the end of Trump’s presidency. This comment sparked controversy and led to further criticism from various quarters.

In response to Trump’s comments, General Milley stated that he would take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of himself and his family. When asked about his safety concerns during an interview with CBS’s Norah O’Donnell, Milley assured that he had implemented adequate safety precautions.

The strained relationship between General Milley and the former president had been evident throughout Trump’s tenure in the White House. During his retirement speech, Milley emphasized that the U.S. military’s loyalty is not pledged to a “wannabe dictator,” a clear reference to Trump. In retaliation, Trump, using the platform Truth Social, criticized Milley and questioned the wisdom of his actions in contacting China’s military leadership, characterizing them as dangerous and ill-conceived.
