Pelosi should have another glass of wine and relax.
In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) expressed her view on Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) stance regarding the expunging of former President Trump’s impeachments. Pelosi accused McCarthy of “playing politics” with the matter and raised doubts about the constitutionality of expunging the impeachments.
According to The Hill, Pelosi asserted that impeaching Trump was a necessary step, as she believed they had no alternative. She cited concerns about Trump’s actions undermining national security and endangering the well-being of the country.
Responding to McCarthy’s claims that one impeachment was based on untrue facts and the other lacked due process, Pelosi stated that erasing the impeachments was not a responsible solution. She accused those supporting the idea of being motivated by fear, alleging that Donald Trump still held influence over them.
During her time as Speaker, Pelosi oversaw two impeachment proceedings against Trump. The first, in 2019, focused on Trump’s abuse of power in pressuring Ukraine to investigate his political rivals in exchange for military aid. The second impeachment occurred in 2021 for Trump’s role in inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
In both instances, Trump was acquitted by the Senate, which has been dominated by Republicans.
