Pelosi is totally out of control.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently sparked controversy with her claim that about 30% of Republican voters will never support a Democratic candidate due to inherent biases. She suggested these voters hold prejudiced views against women, people of color, and the LGBTQ community. Pelosi’s comments echo Hillary Clinton’s 2016 “basket of deplorables” remark and Mitt Romney’s 2012 comment about the “47%” of Americans who he argued were dependent on government.
During an interview at the Texas Tribune Festival, Pelosi commented on the polarized state of American politics, noting that a significant portion of GOP voters are unlikely to be swayed by Democratic appeals due to their entrenched social views. “There are people who will never be, shall we say, inclined to support Democrats because of their orientation toward women, people of color, LGBTQ, you know, they just are not ever going to be there,” Pelosi remarked.
Additionally, Pelosi suggested that wealthy individuals support Republicans primarily to avoid higher taxes and additional regulations. She pointed out that these affluent donors have a vested interest in maintaining their financial advantages and minimal governmental oversight.
While Vice President Kamala Harris has notably outpaced former President Donald Trump in fundraising, raising $361 million in August compared to Trump’s $130 million, Pelosi herself has seen significant financial gains during her political career. Despite her criticisms of Republican voters, Pelosi advised Democrats to approach their opponents with empathy, acknowledging the fears and economic anxieties that drive many to support the GOP.
Pelosi’s comments also reflect broader tensions within the Democratic Party, particularly regarding President Biden’s recent decision not to seek re-election, paving the way for Harris. Pelosi has suggested that a strategic shift is necessary for a successful campaign, emphasizing the importance of adapting to the current political landscape.
Amid these developments, Pelosi remains confident that Trump, who has already been impeached twice, will face defeat once again. She views the upcoming election as a critical opportunity to preserve President Biden’s legacy and ensure a Democratic victory.
