This needed to happen.
Under the leadership of the new Trump administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has ramped up its operations, arresting over 7,400 illegal immigrants in just nine days across several states. The aggressive crackdown on illegal immigration has been a key priority, with ICE officers conducting raids at homes, businesses, and various locations. Along with these arrests, deportations have surged, and the administration has made it clear that the most dangerous criminals among the illegal immigrant population will face swift consequences, including potential relocation to Guantánamo Bay.
As of January 31, ICE had arrested 7,412 individuals accused of being in the U.S. unlawfully. Nearly 6,000 detainers were placed on these individuals, signaling the agency’s heightened focus on identifying and removing those who pose the greatest threats. The raids have targeted sanctuary cities, including New York City, Chicago, and Boston, where violent criminals—including members of notorious gangs like MS-13 and Tren de Aragua—have been apprehended. ICE has also detained individuals wanted for serious offenses such as sex crimes, drug trafficking, and weapons charges.
Tom Homan, the administration’s border czar, emphasized that these operations focus on criminals and violent offenders, not law-abiding immigrants. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem echoed this sentiment, describing the crackdown as a necessary measure to ensure public safety. “The worst of the worst” are being arrested, she stated, with communities now safer as a result.
ICE has conducted many of these raids in collaboration with other federal agencies, including the DEA, ATF, and FBI. Notable arrests include Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco, a leader of the Tren de Aragua gang, and Luis Adolfo Guerra Perez, an MS-13 member previously released by a Boston court despite an order of deportation.
In response to rising violence, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed that the administration is preparing to house some of the most dangerous criminal migrants at Guantánamo Bay, ensuring they are kept off the streets and out of communities. President Trump has also instructed the Pentagon to prepare a facility at Guantánamo capable of holding up to 30,000 criminal migrants.
While many local residents support the increased ICE presence, welcoming efforts to rid their neighborhoods of dangerous criminals, some politicians remain committed to sanctuary policies. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu have reaffirmed their dedication to shielding illegal immigrants, despite the growing concern over public safety.
The increase in ICE arrests has been a welcome development for those concerned about crime and the rule of law. As the Trump administration continues its crackdown on illegal immigration, the focus remains clear: protecting American communities by targeting violent offenders and upholding the nation’s immigration laws.
