Liz Cheney is hell-bent on destroying Trump and she will say anything at this point.
Former President Trump vehemently rejected former Rep. Liz Cheney’s assertion that he was “depressed and not eating” following the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. Trump countered in a social media post on Monday, asserting that he was actually angry and “eating too much.”
In Cheney’s recently published book, she recalls a conversation with then-Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy after the Capitol riot. According to Cheney, McCarthy visited Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, claiming that Trump was in a state of depression and not eating.
Trump disputed this account, stating on his Truth Social platform, “That statement is not true. I was not depressed; I WAS ANGRY, and it was not that I was not eating, it was that I was eating too much.”
He went on to clarify that McCarthy’s presence at Mar-a-Lago was not due to concerns about Trump’s well-being but rather to seek Trump’s support and unite the Republican Party, emphasizing McCarthy’s good intentions.
As Trump, the leading GOP presidential candidate for 2024, continued his response, he criticized “Crazy Liz Cheney,” a prominent GOP critic. Cheney, the vice chair of the Jan. 6 select committee investigating the Capitol attack, has consistently warned of the perceived threat Trump poses to American democracy.
Trump pointed out Cheney’s electoral loss in 2022, stating, “Liz Cheney, on the other hand, went on to lose her seat in Congress by the largest margin for a sitting Congressperson in the history of the U.S.” He also repeated a baseless claim about the Jan. 6 Committee, accusing Cheney and others of attempting to delete and destroy evidence.
Contrary to Trump’s claims, the committee conducted a thorough investigation, publishing an 814-page final report and making additional evidence available on a government website.
Cheney, undeterred by her defeat in the 2022 reelection bid, emphasized the importance of unity and standing against those who would threaten the republic. She urged people to come together, transcending party lines, to safeguard the nation.
