This is exactly what Americans voted for!
President Donald Trump is closing out the year with welcome economic news that many Americans will feel immediately—lower gas prices just in time for Christmas travel.
Trump reshared a post on Truth Social from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt highlighting a FOX Business report showing that gasoline prices have fallen to a four-year low heading into the holiday season. Leavitt summed it up in two words: “The Trump Effect.”
According to the latest data, the national average price for a gallon of gas dropped to $2.89 last week, making it the cheapest December fuel cost since 2020. For retirees, working families, and Americans living on fixed incomes, the decline offers real financial relief during one of the most expensive times of the year.
Gas prices remain highest in states such as Hawaii, California, Washington, Alaska, and Oregon, where strict energy policies and heavy regulations continue to drive up costs. In contrast, drivers in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Iowa, Colorado, and Wisconsin are seeing some of the lowest prices in the nation—underscoring the impact of state-level energy decisions.
The timing could not be better. According to AAA, an estimated 109 million Americans are expected to travel by car during the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Lower fuel prices mean more families can afford to visit loved ones, attend church services, and enjoy holiday traditions without worrying as much about rising costs at the pump.
After years of inflation and economic uncertainty, falling gas prices are being viewed by many voters as a sign of renewed economic stability. For millions of Americans hitting the road this Christmas, the savings are tangible—and for some, they feel nothing short of a holiday miracle.
