Trump Eliminates Decades-Old Program

Here’s what Trump is doing now.

In a decisive move to cut government waste and restore accountability, President Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency is preparing to wind down the long-running Energy Star program. The program, famous for its blue logo on appliances and electronics, has been in place since 1992—but according to two senior officials, it’s now being targeted for elimination as part of a sweeping reorganization plan.

The EPA is also moving to dissolve two internal divisions: the Office of Atmospheric Protection and the Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards. These changes are part of a bold overhaul aimed at eliminating inefficiencies and redirecting resources to programs that deliver real results for American families.

Why Is the Energy Star Program Being Eliminated?

Energy Star was originally created to help consumers identify energy-efficient products—ranging from washing machines and refrigerators to office buildings. For years, its familiar blue label was a signal of lower utility bills and energy savings.

But now, with modern appliances already meeting high efficiency standards, critics argue that the program is outdated, redundant, and no longer justifies the federal resources it consumes.

Despite pressure from industry groups urging the program be preserved, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin appears committed to reform. Over 30 trade associations sent a letter warning that the phase-out could confuse consumers—but others see it as long overdue.

EPA: A Leaner Agency for a Stronger America

In a statement to Newsweek, the EPA said:

“EPA announced the next phase of organizational improvements to the agency to better provide clean air, water, and land for all Americans.”

The agency emphasized that the reorganization is part of President Trump’s larger effort to Power the Great American Comeback—a vision built on efficiency, accountability, and putting taxpayers first.

This is exactly the kind of action that puts Washington back in its place—and American citizens back in control.

Democrats Lash Out—But Americans Support Accountability

Predictably, liberal lawmakers are attacking the move. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) called the cut “rash” and claimed it would increase energy bills. But millions of Americans know the truth: bloated programs often do more to benefit bureaucrats and special interests than everyday families.

Under President Trump, the goal is simple—eliminate what doesn’t work and reinvest in what does. That means cutting red tape, streamlining agencies, and focusing on real outcomes—not feel-good programs propped up by taxpayer dollars.

BOTTOM LINE:
The Trump administration is taking real action to drain the swamp, phase out wasteful programs like Energy Star, and build a more accountable EPA that serves the people—not the political class.
