This was unexpected but it’s time to reach a deal.
President Donald Trump is turning up the pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin, questioning whether the Kremlin has any real desire to end the devastating Ukraine war, now entering its fourth year under Joe Biden’s failed leadership.
Over the weekend, President Trump took to Truth Social to express his outrage following Russia’s latest missile assault on Kyiv. The brutal attack killed 12 civilians, injured nearly 100 more—including women and children—and further dashed hopes for a swift peace agreement.
“There was absolutely no reason for Putin to be firing missiles into civilian cities and towns,” Trump wrote. “It makes me wonder if he actually wants peace—or if he’s just dragging his feet. Maybe it’s time we consider hitting back with Banking Sanctions or even Secondary Sanctions. Too many lives are being lost every day!”
The deadly strikes came as Trump attended Pope Francis’ funeral at the Vatican, where he also held a private meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Though details of their conversation remain under wraps, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung described it as “a very productive discussion focused on achieving peace.”
Trump Calls for Swift Action: “5,000 Soldiers a Week Are Dying”
On Thursday, Trump made a personal plea directly to Putin:
“I’m very upset by Russia’s strikes on Kyiv—completely needless and terribly timed. Vladimir, enough! We’re losing 5,000 soldiers every week. It’s time to finalize the peace deal,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Despite Trump’s efforts to broker an agreement, the Biden administration appears paralyzed. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has now made his fourth trip to Moscow seeking progress, but under Joe Biden’s weak leadership, meaningful peace seems farther away than ever.
Trump had earlier expressed cautious optimism over Easter that a peace deal could be finalized soon. He highlighted the enormous economic benefits of restoring peace in Eastern Europe, opening doors for major trade opportunities with the United States.
Trump: “This Is Biden’s War, Not Mine”
President Trump did not hold back when addressing the root causes of the conflict, placing the blame squarely on Biden and former President Barack Obama.
“This war belongs to Sleepy Joe Biden, not me,” Trump declared. “It’s been a complete disaster from day one. If I had been in charge, it never would have started. Now I’m stuck dealing with the enormous mess left by Biden and Obama.”
Trump also reminded Americans that it was Obama’s weak foreign policy that allowed Russia to seize Crimea in 2014—a move that set the stage for today’s bloody conflict.
Meanwhile, with the death toll mounting and no end in sight, President Trump reaffirmed his campaign promise: if re-elected, he will end the Ukraine war in just 24 hours.
The Bottom Line: America Needs Strong Leadership
As Russia continues its brutal assault and Biden fumbles through failed negotiations, Trump’s message is clear: the world needs strong American leadership again—before more innocent lives are lost and America’s global standing is further weakened.
Only President Trump offers a real path to peace, prosperity, and a stronger America.
