Here’s what you need to know…

Former California Representative Kevin McCarthy suggested that in the 2024 presidential race, ex-President Donald Trump should consider former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley as his running mate.

As of now, Trump is leading the 2024 Republican presidential nomination race, with recent polls indicating that Haley has overtaken Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the second spot in the GOP primary field.

At the New York Times’s DealBook Summit, McCarthy was asked about the best choice for Trump’s vice president. Options presented by Andrew Ross Sorkin included Haley, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, and Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina.

McCarthy emphasized the importance of choosing a vice president based on addition rather than subtraction. He suggested that picking someone appealing to the anti-Trump vote would be strategic, and currently, Nikki Haley seems to fit that profile.

According to McCarthy, Trump needs support not just from the GOP base but also from independents to win the White House. He stressed the significance of selecting a candidate who could attract anti-Trump voters to the ticket, and in his view, Nikki Haley is the right choice at this time.

While McCarthy, a former staunch Trump supporter, has not officially endorsed any candidate, he acknowledged the ongoing nature of the campaign and expressed a high likelihood of endorsing President Trump. McCarthy firmly believes that Trump will be the Republican nominee and is optimistic about his chances of getting reelected.
