Here’s what Trump is thinking now.
President Donald Trump is once again making waves with a hard-hitting law-and-order proposal: the possible reopening of insane asylums to deal with America’s growing mental health and crime crisis.
In an interview with the Daily Caller’s Reagan Reese, Trump was asked if he would support the federal government reopening insane asylums for people with severe mental illness. The president didn’t hesitate.
“Yeah, I would,” Trump said.
Trump pointed out that for decades, states like New York and California operated large asylum systems that kept dangerous individuals off the streets. But liberal governors shut them down in the name of “savings.” The result? Homelessness, rising crime, and chaos.
“They released them all into society because they couldn’t afford it,” Trump explained. “New York had a lot of them—Creedmoor, Bellevue—and they were closed. And when they closed, the patients were simply released. That’s why you see what you see today.”
Trump Ties Mental Health to Crime and Homelessness
For Trump, reopening asylums isn’t about stigma—it’s about restoring order and giving real treatment to the severely mentally ill who are now living in tent cities and filling America’s jails.
This comes after Trump’s recent order directing the homeless to clear out of D.C. encampments. He paired that move with a federal takeover of the city’s police force and the deployment of the National Guard to restore safety.
“The homeless must leave right away,” Trump announced on Truth Social. “We’ll provide housing options, but they will be well outside the Capital.”
Liberals Fail, Trump Acts
Democrat-run cities like New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chicago continue to suffer from homelessness, open-air drug markets, and violent crime. Decades of liberal policies have failed. Trump is offering a different approach: treatment, structure, and accountability.
At 78, President Trump is showing he’s still willing to tackle the toughest issues head-on—issues other politicians avoid. From taking back the streets of Washington, D.C. to calling for a return of institutions that once protected citizens, his message is clear:
Make America Safe Again.
