Trump will always be known as America’s funniest president.
President Donald Trump recently shared a meme from the popular show SpongeBob SquarePants after tech billionaire Elon Musk announced a new initiative to evaluate federal workers. The meme, which Trump shared on Truth Social, humorously highlights the typical tasks of a government employee, with a list of things they “got done last week,” including “Cried about Trump,” “Cried about Elon,” and “Made it into the office for once.”
This came after Musk, in a tweet, revealed that federal employees would soon receive an email asking them to detail their accomplishments from the previous week. Musk made it clear that non-responses would be considered a resignation. The initiative aligns with Musk’s broader goal of cutting through government inefficiency and shedding light on waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal bureaucracy—an issue Trump has long championed.
Musk’s announcement is part of his ongoing push to reform the public sector, which often wastes taxpayer dollars. Musk also emphasized that positive responses to the email should be considered a sign of employees worthy of promotion.
However, the move hasn’t been without controversy. Some politicians, particularly from the left, have criticized Musk’s approach. Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski from Alaska called the email “absurd,” while Democratic Senator Tina Smith from Minnesota condemned Musk as a “d— boss” in a tweet. Musk, unfazed by the criticism, responded humorously to Smith with a challenge: “What did you get done last week?”
As expected, federal agencies like the Department of Defense, FBI, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence have told their employees to pause responding to the email, citing concerns over sensitive information.
While some government workers and elected officials may resist this effort to streamline operations, many conservatives see Musk’s push as a much-needed step toward accountability and a leaner government—goals President Trump has made central to his administration’s legacy.
