This needs to happen sooner rather than later.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald J. Trump announced Saturday he will speak directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin this coming Monday, reigniting hopes for peace in a war that has raged unchecked under the Biden administration.
“I WILL BE SPEAKING, BY TELEPHONE, TO PRESIDENT VLADIMIR PUTIN OF RUSSIA ON MONDAY, AT 10:00 A.M.,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
A Call to End the Bloodshed
According to President Trump, the conversation will focus on two urgent issues: halting the ongoing “bloodbath” in Eastern Europe and revitalizing U.S.–Russia trade relations.
“THE SUBJECTS OF THE CALL WILL BE, STOPPING THE ‘BLOODBATH’ THAT IS KILLING, ON AVERAGE, MORE THAN 5,000 RUSSIAN AND UKRAINIAN SOLDIERS A WEEK, AND TRADE,” Trump stated.
The Trump administration has consistently advocated for an immediate ceasefire, while the Biden White House has offered little more than weapons and rhetoric. Trump’s hands-on diplomacy marks a sharp contrast.
Direct Talks With Zelensky and NATO Also Planned
President Trump also confirmed he will be reaching out to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as NATO leaders, to help broker a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
“HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE A PRODUCTIVE DAY, A CEASEFIRE WILL TAKE PLACE, AND THIS VERY VIOLENT WAR, A WAR THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED, WILL END,” the president continued.
White House Pushes 30-Day Ceasefire Plan
Friday, Trump told reporters he is prepared to meet Putin face-to-face. The administration has reportedly been urging Moscow and Kyiv to agree to a 30-day ceasefire for several months—something that could have saved thousands of lives had it been pursued earlier.
Rubio: ‘Only Trump Can Get It Done’
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that a lasting solution will likely require a personal meeting between the two leaders.
“The only way to have a breakthrough between President Trump and Putin is for them to meet. Nothing productive will happen until that step is taken,” Rubio stated.
Rubio’s remarks follow a Saturday call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during which the two discussed a recent prisoner swap negotiated in Turkey.
Historic Peace Talks Resume in Istanbul
The planned phone call coincides with the first direct meeting in three years between Russian and Ukrainian negotiators, held this week in Istanbul.
Violence Underscores Urgency
Earlier Saturday, a deadly Russian drone strike killed at least nine civilians in northeastern Ukraine, according to reports. The tragedy highlights the dire need for strong leadership and real results—something sorely missing from the Biden-era foreign policy.
With the world watching, President Trump is once again stepping up to lead where others have failed—bringing hope, strength, and American leadership back to the global stage.
