Trump wins again.
President Donald Trump says he is looking forward to meeting Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado next week, calling it a “great honor” to accept the Nobel Peace Prize she has offered him.
During a recent interview on Fox News with host Sean Hannity, Machado said she wants to personally present Trump with the Nobel Peace Prize she received earlier this year, citing what she described as Trump’s role in preventing and resolving several international conflicts.
Trump, who has repeatedly pointed to his foreign policy record as deserving Nobel recognition, told Hannity that he would be pleased to accept the prize from Machado.
“I’ve stopped eight wars,” Trump said during the interview. “Frankly, it’s been a major embarrassment for Norway. I don’t even know why Norway is involved, but that’s where the Nobel committee is based.”
Trump added that Machado is expected to visit Washington soon and said he looks forward to meeting her in person.
“I understand she’s coming in sometime next week, and I look forward to saying hello,” Trump said.
Earlier in the week, Trump also commented on the political situation in Venezuela, stating that Machado does not currently have enough support or respect within the country to serve as its leader. The United States has instead backed acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez following a Trump-ordered military operation that resulted in the capture of longtime Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, who was transported to the United States to face drug-related charges.
Trump has also suggested that political considerations may have influenced the Nobel committee’s decision to award the prize to Machado rather than to him, a claim Norwegian officials have denied.
“When you stop eight wars,” Trump said, “in theory, you should get one for each one.”
For many supporters, the development represents what they view as long-overdue recognition of Trump’s foreign policy approach—one centered on negotiation, deterrence, and what he has frequently described as “peace through strength.”
