Trump wasn’t happy at all.
Former President Donald Trump slammed Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell after Trump claimed that McConnell gave President Biden and the Democrats “a lifeline” that they desperately needed by allowing them to a short-term extension by raising the national debt ceiling until December.
According to the Washington Examiner, McConnell gave Democrats major support by presenting a twofold deal which allowed them more time to negotiate and pass a long-term debt limit without needing any Republican support. Furthermore, McConnell’s deal allows Republicans to help fast-track the budget reconciliation if the Democrats raise the debt limit on their own.
Trump called for replacing McConnell after his move and told Fox’s Sean Hannity, “The Republican Senate needs new leadership. I’ve been saying it for a long time. Mitch is not the guy. He’s not the right guy. He’s not doing the job.“
Trump added, “They were in a real big bind. They wouldn’t have been able to do anything. He had the weapon, and he was unable to use it.”
Conservatives on social media also are unhappy with McConnell and are calling for him to be replaced:
Don’t vote for senate candidates who won’t pledge to vote against McConnell as senate leader!
Mitch needs to go!
