This is a great idea!
Calls for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to appoint Lara Trump to the U.S. Senate are gaining momentum as rumors swirl that Senator Marco Rubio may soon be tapped for a high-profile role in the incoming Trump administration, possibly as Secretary of State. Should this happen, DeSantis would face the task of appointing a replacement for Rubio, who was re-elected in 2022 and would serve until 2028.
Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, has emerged as a leading contender in these discussions. Alabama Senator Katie Britt, a strong supporter of the Trump family, publicly endorsed Lara as the ideal candidate to fill Rubio’s seat. In an interview with Axios, Britt praised Lara for her deep understanding of the “America First” agenda and her ability to represent hardworking families. “Lara would be a tremendous pick,” Britt said. “She’s a mom with young kids who understands the challenges facing our country, and she’s a fierce advocate for the American dream.”
Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna, who has been a staunch ally of the Trump family in Congress, also expressed her support for Lara Trump. Luna argued that appointing Lara would avoid a contentious primary battle in 2026 and help keep the seat firmly in conservative hands. “Lara will keep the seat and avoid a messy primary for Florida,” Luna wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Even conservative figures outside of Florida have weighed in on Lara Trump’s potential appointment. Political commentator Benny Johnson and podcast host Caitlyn Jenner have both praised Lara’s leadership abilities and her strong influence in advancing conservative causes. Johnson, in particular, highlighted her key role in Trump’s 2024 victory, calling her a “killer instinct for reform” and a leader who could shake up Washington.
Lara Trump has been an influential figure in Republican circles for several years, serving as a co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), a role that has only increased her visibility and political clout. Many see her as a natural fit for the Senate, given her strong ties to the Trump family and her track record of supporting the conservative agenda.
If Rubio is appointed to a position in the new administration, DeSantis would need to choose a replacement to serve out the remainder of Rubio’s term, which lasts until 2028. DeSantis himself has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the Senate, but some speculate he could opt to appoint his lieutenant governor, Jeanette Nunez, or his chief of staff, James Uthmeier, in the interim.
While there’s still uncertainty about what the future holds, one thing is clear: Lara Trump has become a serious contender to represent Florida in the U.S. Senate, with many conservatives rallying behind her as a strong voice for the Trump movement and the values of the Republican Party.
