Here’s what happened.
President Donald Trump says he hopes to attend Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding this weekend, but mounting international tensions and presidential responsibilities may keep him away from the family celebration.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump told reporters that his eldest son’s wedding will be a small and private event, though he admitted the timing could hardly be worse given the growing concerns overseas.
“He wants me there, and I’m going to try to make it,” Trump said. “But there’s a lot happening right now involving Iran and other major issues.”
The president also joked that critics would attack him no matter what decision he makes.
“If I go, people complain. If I don’t go, people complain,” Trump said with a smile. “That’s one I can’t win.”
Still, the president made clear he is happy for the couple and hopes they enjoy a successful future together.
According to reports, Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson are set to marry Saturday during a private ceremony in the Bahamas. The wedding is expected to be much smaller and more low-key than originally discussed.
Sources close to the family say the couple once considered holding the wedding at the White House but ultimately decided against it because of ongoing world conflicts and growing instability abroad.
Insiders reportedly said the couple did not want a lavish public event while Americans remain focused on serious global developments, including the escalating situation involving Iran.
The wedding arrives during an emotional time for the Trump family after Vanessa Trump, Don Jr.’s former wife, publicly revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
In a heartfelt social media message, Vanessa shared that she is currently working closely with doctors and recently underwent a medical procedure as part of her treatment.
“I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer,” she wrote. “While this isn’t news anyone expects, I’m thankful for my medical team and the support around me.”
Vanessa and Donald Trump Jr. were married from 2005 until 2018 and share five children together. Despite their divorce, the two are said to maintain a positive relationship centered around their family and children.
Don Jr., 48, became engaged to Anderson last December after proposing at Camp David. The couple reportedly began dating in 2024 following the end of his previous engagement to former Fox News personality Kimberly Guilfoyle.
Anderson, 39, is a well-known figure in Palm Beach social circles and comes from a prominent family with deep roots in philanthropy and finance.
Earlier this year, several members of the Trump family — including Ivanka Trump, Lara Trump, Tiffany Trump, and Marla Maples — attended Anderson’s bridal shower at Mar-a-Lago.
As President Trump balances global challenges, political pressure, and family obligations, the upcoming wedding has become yet another reminder of the intense spotlight surrounding America’s most talked-about political family.
