Things are going to change very fast.
Former Attorney General Bill Barr, who served under President Donald Trump, has called on both state and federal prosecutors to drop the legal cases against the former president before he assumes office again in January 2025. Barr’s remarks come after Trump was re-elected by the American people, despite facing a series of legal challenges from various prosecutors.
In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Barr pointed out that voters were fully aware of the allegations against Trump when they cast their ballots in his favor. He emphasized that the American public has already delivered its verdict by choosing Trump to lead the nation for a second term. Barr argued that it is now time for the justice system to respect the will of the people and cease pursuing these cases.
“The American people have made their decision. They chose President Trump for another four years, knowing the allegations that have been thrown at him. Now, it’s time for the Department of Justice and state prosecutors to honor that decision and put an end to these politically motivated cases,” Barr said.
Barr also noted that the legal foundations of many of these cases have been significantly weakened by prior court rulings. He pointed out that in some instances, the American people have already rejected the accusations during the election cycle. Furthermore, Barr believes that continuing these legal battles would only serve to distract the country at a time when unity is needed most.
In particular, Barr highlighted the federal cases led by Special Counsel Jack Smith, including one related to alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election and another involving classified documents retained by Trump after leaving office. These cases, according to Barr, are unlikely to survive much longer, especially with a Trump-appointed Attorney General who could dismiss them once Trump takes office. He also referenced the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that provided presidents with immunity in certain circumstances, which could further undermine the case against Trump.
However, Barr acknowledged the continued challenges posed by state-level cases, such as the ongoing criminal investigation in Georgia and the conviction in New York over business records related to a payment to Stormy Daniels. While these cases are still active, Barr called on state prosecutors to reconsider their pursuit of these matters, particularly the New York case, which he believes is tainted by legal flaws.
“The case in New York is filled with legal errors and abuses of power. Continuing with it would only serve as a distraction, and ultimately, the case would likely be overturned. It’s time for state prosecutors to do what’s right and move on,” Barr argued.
As the clock ticks down to the start of Trump’s second term, Barr made it clear that the nation’s focus should shift away from legal battles and toward addressing the serious issues facing the country both at home and abroad. He called on Attorney General Merrick Garland and state prosecutors to put aside their political pursuits and act in the nation’s best interest by dismissing the charges against Trump.
“Further legal action would only deepen divisions and delay the country’s ability to tackle its most pressing challenges. Now is the time to put the past behind us and focus on the future,” Barr concluded.
