Democrat Senator Faces Federal Mortgage Fraud Probe as Trump Admin Turns Up the Heat
Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) is now under federal investigation for alleged mortgage fraud, marking another chapter in the ongoing fallout between Schiff and President Donald Trump.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland has opened a probe following a formal criminal referral from the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). The referral, sent in May, accuses Schiff of falsifying documents to receive better mortgage terms on a luxury home in Potomac, Maryland — one of the wealthiest suburbs of Washington, D.C.
Allegations of Dual Primary Residences
FHFA Director William Pulte submitted the referral to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy AG Todd Blanche, outlining “multiple instances” between 2003 and 2019 where Schiff allegedly manipulated property records and bank documents. At the center of the scandal: whether Schiff improperly claimed both his California condo and Maryland mansion as his primary residence — a move that could constitute bank fraud, wire fraud, and false statements to financial institutions.
Schiff allegedly claimed Maryland as his primary residence for mortgage refinancing between 2009 and 2013 — while simultaneously benefiting from a California homeowner’s tax exemption.
“It appears Mr. Schiff knowingly falsified records to obtain favorable financial terms,” Pulte’s letter states.
Legal Fallout: Could Schiff Be Charged?
If proven, the allegations could result in serious federal charges for the former House Intelligence Committee Chairman. Schiff has a long history of attacking President Trump — from pushing the Russia collusion hoax to leading the first Trump impeachment trial in 2020.
Now, he may face the very justice system he once tried to weaponize.
In 2023, a spokesperson for Schiff told CNN that both homes were listed as primary residences “to distinguish them from vacation properties,” raising eyebrows among legal experts and mortgage fraud analysts.
Schiff Responds – Blames Trump
After news of the referral surfaced in July, Schiff took to X (formerly Twitter) to claim the investigation is politically motivated.
“Since I led Trump’s first impeachment, he’s called for my arrest. This baseless retribution won’t stop me from holding him accountable,” Schiff wrote.
He even attempted to change the subject by referencing Trump and the Jeffrey Epstein files — a tactic some say was meant to distract from the fraud allegations.
Trump’s Pursuit of Accountability Continues
For many Trump supporters and everyday Americans, this investigation represents long-overdue accountability. Schiff’s role in undermining a duly elected president hasn’t been forgotten — and now, the law may finally be catching up.
Is this another case of Democrat privilege, or the beginning of real justice?
