President Donald Trump revealed Thursday that he will personally ride along with Washington, D.C. police officers and National Guard troops as they patrol the crime-ridden streets of the capital — a bold move highlighting his law-and-order agenda.
In an interview with conservative radio host Todd Starnes, Trump said: “I’m going to be going out tonight, I think with the police and with the military, of course. We’re going to do a job — the National Guard is great, they’ve done a fantastic job.”
This announcement comes just 10 days after Trump federalized the DC police force and deployed the National Guard following a surge of violent crime, illegal immigration, and homeless encampments plaguing the city.
Trump’s Bold Style of Leadership
Unlike career politicians, Trump has made a habit of showing up in unexpected places to connect with ordinary Americans. During last year’s campaign, he took shifts at McDonald’s, rode a garbage truck, and visited working-class neighborhoods — sending a message that he isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty.
Now, his decision to ride in a police vehicle alongside officers cracking down on crime drives home the same point: Trump leads from the front.
“We’re doing a sort of a test right now in DC. It’s working unbelievably,” Trump added.
Crime Crackdown Brings Big Results
Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth joined National Guard members for lunch this week, praising their work to restore order in the capital. Vance emphasized that removing dangerous homeless encampments protects both the public and the mentally ill, saying it’s not “compassionate” to leave people suffering on the streets.

- 251 suspected illegal immigrants detained
- 10 illegal firearms seized Wednesday night alone (86 total since the operation began)
- A child sex offender apprehended near the National Mall
More than 2,000 law enforcement officers and National Guard members are now on the ground every night, providing the security and safety Washington residents have been demanding for years.
