The influential podcast host raised the accusation Tuesday while discussing Trump’s decision to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America.”

During an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Rogan discussed the president’s decision with comedian Brian Simpson.
Rogan appeared puzzled by the need to change the familiar name.
“Lake Ontario has been Lake Ontario forever,” Rogan said.
The two then discussed the geography of the Great Lakes and the fact that Lake Ontario borders both the United States and Canada.
Simpson joked that Trump’s decision complicated the familiar “HOMES” mnemonic that generations of Americans have used to remember the five Great Lakes: Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior.
But the conversation soon moved beyond geography.
Simpson asked a straightforward question: What was the purpose of changing the name?
Rogan offered a provocative answer.
Rogan Says Iran Could Be the Real Story
Rogan suggested the Lake Ontario controversy “could distract” Americans from the ongoing war with Iran, which he argued is a conflict the United States cannot win.
“It doesn’t make any sense,” Rogan said while questioning why Americans should care about changing the lake’s name.
The accusation is Rogan’s opinion, and he did not present evidence demonstrating that the Trump administration deliberately ordered the name change to divert attention from Iran.

The executive order directs the Department of the Interior and the U.S. Board on Geographic Names to update federal records and references to reflect the new name.
The decision quickly attracted attention in both the United States and Canada.
But Rogan believes Americans should be paying much closer attention to events thousands of miles away.
U.S. Launches New Strikes Against Iran
Rogan’s comments came as the United States launched another round of military strikes against Iranian targets.
U.S. Central Command said American forces began striking targets associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, on Tuesday.
According to the U.S. military, the action followed attempted attacks against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and American service members deployed in the Middle East.
That makes the situation much more consequential than a political argument over the name of a lake.
American troops are involved, international shipping is at risk and further retaliation could escalate the confrontation.
Iran subsequently launched missiles and drones following the American strikes, adding to concerns that another round of retaliation could deepen the conflict.
Trump has warned Iran that additional attacks against the United States could bring an even stronger American response.

The Strait of Hormuz may seem far removed from the everyday concerns of American families, but instability there can have consequences at home.
